You Weren’t Born Innately Negative…
I, like many of you, grew up in a negative environment. My parents were loving and caring, but my Dad was at times kind of scary. He had a bad temper and took it out on my mother. He was gruff and had a way of taking the fun out of life.
As early as I can remember, I was afraid of his bark. I tried hard to please and impress him as a kid, but it didn’t work, so I became more and more negative in my thinking and would listen to my self-talk telling me I wasn’t good enough.
I’ve been working on myself for decades. I’m still a work in progress. My self confidence keeps improving and the self doubt is gradually drifting away. I don’t have an easy answer to fixing yourself and becoming like Tony Robbins. What has worked for me has been trial and error.
I have read self help books most of my adult life. I have been to numerous motivational seminars and workshops. I have listened to audios and videos with positive and subliminal messages. I find a good self-hypnosis audio to be effective if listened to repetitively. All of these helped my self worth and confidence.
I have been to a hypnotherapist several times. I found this helped me the most, but it wasn’t an overnight transformation. I recommend it based on my experiences. Full disclosure; because this helped me more than other methods, I eventually became certified through a well known accredited college of hypnotherapy in 2009. Hypnotherapy and what most people think of as hypnosis, are not the same. I will write more about this in a later post.
You are born with an almost unlimited capacity to learn. You weren’t born innately negative, but you acquire many negative patterns. These negative patterns are the result of interactions between your subconscious mind and your environment.
These patterns can be replaced with positive patterns by reprogramming the subconscious mind. Your negative patterns are the result of interactions between your subconscious mind and your environment. These patterns can be replaced with positive patterns by reprogramming your subconscious mind.
Your subconscious mind is the most powerful force in our lives. Your entire life, health, and happiness are controlled by this small portion of our brain.
Your subconscious mind never stops working. The thoughts are still there whether you are aware of them or not. Everything that has ever happened to you is still stored in the subconscious mind. If you have experienced a negative situation in your childhood or any time in your life, it is stored in your subconscious mind and it is affecting you negatively every day of your life.
Your subconscious mind contains all the habits that you have formed in your life. These habits are memories that are tied to emotions. Your subconscious mind controls the way you act and think. Your subconscious mind works automatically and is the creative force behind everything that you do.
Your subconscious mind literally programs you to act and think in certain ways. It is responsible for your behavior patterns, likes, dislikes, habits, opinions, beliefs, perceptions, attitudes, and values.
We can create new patterns in our subconscious mind by changing our behavior patterns. We must change what we do to change how we think and feel. We must focus on changing our negative patterns into positive ones if we want to improve the quality of our life. We must be proactive in creating these changes to reap the rewards of improved self-awareness, self-confidence, self-esteem, happiness, and success.
So, how do we go about changing these negative patterns.
First, if you want to break from negativity, you must surround yourself with positive people.
Second, you must feed your mind with positive, inspirational thoughts that come from books, positive media, podcasts, audio downloads, uplifting videos and more. I personally avoid the news as much as possible.
Thirdly, you can be proactive and work with a reputable hypnotherapist, talk therapist, NLP practitioner, or life coach. They should have some type of board certification with well documented reviews or testimonials.
Lastly, remember, you weren’t born innately negative. Negativity is contagious and we get infected when we are young. But this means you can break those destructive, negative thoughts and reveal the real you. The ‘you’ that knows, anything is possible.
