How to Shift Your Mindset

I was in my twenties when I first heard the term growth mindset.  After cruising through high school and much of my college career in party mode, I was beginning to get serious about my life.

I remember watching a documentary on PBS one day when the speaker mentioned the word, mindset.  He said that to be successful, you must shift your mindset. The speaker was the late Wayne Dyer.

I was confused at first, but then I thought about it more. And then I had an “Aha!” moment. I realized that Dr. Dyer was right – to achieve anything, you must change your thinking.

So I decided to give it a try. I began to make personal development my main focus in life. I spent much time in bookstores and libraries reading books like “Think and Grow Rich” by Napolean Hill and Og Mandino’s “The Greatest Salesman in the World.”

In recent years, my reading interests have evolved to include Rupert Spira, Eckhart Tolle, and Byron Katie, to name a few.

I want to share what I’ve learned over the years since I had that aha moment.

First of all, what is a Growth Mindset?

Your mindset is the filter through which you view the world. It’s the lens through which you make decisions, form opinions, and interact with others. Your mindset influences your thoughts, feelings, emotions, and behavior.

Your mindset is a collection of thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs that you hold about yourself and the world around you. Your mindset determines how you see yourself, the obstacles in your life, and the opportunities available.

Your mindset also determines how you react to challenges and setbacks. If you have a growth mindset, you see failure as an opportunity to learn and grow. If you have a fixed mindset, you see failure as a sign that you’re not good enough or smart enough.

A growth mindset plays a significant role in your ability to achieve success. If you want to achieve your goals and dreams, it’s essential to develop a growth mindset that will help you stay motivated and optimistic even when things get tough.

A Positive Mindset vs Negative Mindset

There are two primary ways to view the world: positive or negative. A positive mindset or negative mindset is based on the ratio of positive to negative thoughts, feelings, and emotions you experience regularly.

A positive mindset means having more positive than negative experiences, while a negative mindset means more negative than positive experiences.

A growth mindset allows for greater happiness, optimism, creativity, and productivity, while a negative mindset leads to increased stress, anxiety, anger, and depression.

Your mindset also determines how you respond to stress and adversity. A growth mindset allows you to learn from your mistakes and grow from experience, while a fixed negative mindset leads to self-defeating thoughts and behaviors.

When you “shift your mindset,” you change how you think about something. For example, if you’ve been dreading going to the gym because you hate exercising, shifting your mindset to focus on the positive benefits of working out (such as increased energy and improved cardiovascular health) can make it easier to motivate yourself to hit the gym.

Or another example, let’s say someone is trying to lose weight. They might have been told throughout life that they can’t be thin or will always struggle with their weight. As a result, they believe these things to be true.

However, if they shift their mindset and start thinking that losing weight and achieving their desired body is possible, they’re much more likely to make it happen. Suddenly, instead of seeing roadblocks, they see opportunities. They become more motivated to succeed at their goal of weight loss.

Here are a few ways to shift to a growth mindset and get ahead in life:

1. Make sure you have clear goals

And visualize yourself achieving them. When you can see, feel, and believe it, you’re that much closer to making it happen.

2. Take action.

Once you’ve made a decision, don’t just sit around and hope things will happen on their own. You need to take action to make your dreams a reality. This means setting goals and taking the necessary steps to achieve them.

It also means putting in the hard work required to reach your goals.

There are many ways to shift your mindset and get ahead in life. However, the most important thing is to be clear about what you want and take action towards achieving it.

3. Cultivate a positive attitude

Be grateful for what you have, even when things are tough. This will help keep you motivated when the going gets tough.

4. Be resilient and don’t give up.

When things don’t go as planned, remember that failure is part of the journey.

5. Make a decision.

The ability to make decisions is one of the key characteristics of successful people. When you make a decision, you take control of your life and put yourself in the driver’s seat. You can’t let other people or circumstances dictate your life. You must decide what’s best for you and then go after it with full force.

6. Think bigger.

Most people are limited by their beliefs, but if you start thinking bigger, you’ll open yourself up to new possibilities. Another way to shift your mindset is to become more positive and optimistic. Cultivating a positive attitude will help you stay motivated and focused on your goals.

7. Mindset Shifts through your Headphones.

My interest in shifting my mindset led me to subliminal audio and hypnosis audio downloads.

There is a lot of misinformation about subliminal audio downloads and hypnosis audio downloads. People often lump them together and think they are the same thing, but they are quite different.

Subliminal audio downloads usually contain affirmations that are repeated over and over again. The user is not consciously aware of these affirmations, but they’re designed to seep into the subconscious and produce results.

On the other hand, Hypnosis audio downloads typically use relaxation techniques coupled with positive suggestions to help the user reach a state of deep relaxation. Once in this state, you are more open to suggestions and are more likely to make changes in your belief system or behavior.

Neither of these audio downloads is a substitute for working with a well-trained hypnotherapist or NLP practitioner, but I have found them effective over time.

There is nothing magical about them.  Repetition is the key to getting results from audio recordings. If you listen every morning before heading off to work or in the evening before bedtime, you will start to see results if you make it a regular practice.

Final thoughts

If you want to achieve your goals, it may require changes in how you think. The seven steps I laid out are a great place to start. Remember, change doesn’t happen overnight – but with time and practice, you can make permanent shifts to a growth mindset that will help you achieve anything you desire.
